About the Livingstone Tartan
The Livingstone name belongs to two clans. The Lowland Livingstons took their name from the lands of Livingston in West Lothian, and rose as lords of Callendar and Earls of Linlithgow. The Highland Livingstones, or MacLeas, of the Isle of Lismore in Argyll are the hereditary keepers of the Bachuil Mor, the ancient staff of Saint Moluag, and have their own chief, the Livingstone of Bachuil. Both bear the name with pride, and the Lowland motto is Si Je Puis.

Livingstone Clan Heritage
Sir William Livingston fought beside David II at Neville's Cross in 1346, and was granted the barony of Callendar. The Livingstons of Callendar rose high: Alexander Livingston was guardian of the young Mary, Queen of Scots, and his daughter Mary Livingston was one of the queen's beloved "Four Marys." Made Earls of Linlithgow and Callendar, the family followed the Stuart cause, and forfeited all after the Jacobite rising of 1715.
On the Isle of Lismore, the MacLeas — who took the name Livingstone — kept, and keep to this day, the Bachuil Mor, the pastoral staff of Saint Moluag, the 6th-century missionary who raced Saint Columba to the isle; their chief is the Coarb of Saint Moluag and Baron of Bachuil. From the western Livingstones sprang David Livingstone, born at Blantyre in 1813, the great missionary and explorer of Africa. The crest is a demi-savage, the motto Si Je Puis.
