Langlands Family Heritage
Johannes de Langland is the first of the name on Scottish record, holding a charter of the lands of Milsallytoun and Ochtirheuyd in 1364, and the family held their barony of Langlands in Peeblesshire of that Ilk for generations. Charles Langlands was minister of Dryfesdale in 1531, and the name appears through the records of the Borders and the Privy Council in the centuries that followed.
Like many old Border families of that Ilk, the Langlands lived by their lands in the hill country of Tweeddale, serving in the affairs of their county and kirk. In later centuries the name travelled with Scottish emigrants to Ireland, America, Australia and beyond, but it remains rooted, above all, in the green Peeblesshire hills where it began.
