In County Cork, one sept held Ardagh Castle near Skibbereen and Baltimore, while another were lords of Muskerrylinn, from Ballyvourney to Blarney, until pressed eastward by the McCarthys. In Connacht, the O'Flynns of Roscommon, near Castlerea, were erenaghs — keepers of church lands — and their chief held the curious right to ride the same horse as the King of Connacht.
In Ulster, the O'Flynns held the lands between Lough Neagh and the sea in County Antrim, where the name, with its silent "F," became anglicised as O'Lynn or simply Lynn.
