About the Fletcher Tartan
Clan Fletcher takes its name from an ancient craft — the Gaelic Mac-an-Leister, "son of the arrow-maker." Widespread across the Highlands, the Fletchers made arrows for the great clans, above all as hereditary arrow-makers to Clan MacGregor. The chief line held the lands of Achallader in Glen Orchy from early times. An armigerous clan today, the Fletchers have their own distinctive tartan.

Fletcher Clan Heritage
The Mac-an-Leisters settled in Glen Orchy in Argyll, where they were said to have kindled the first fire and were arrow-makers to the MacGregors; the oldest recorded chief, Angus Mac-an-Leister, lived around 1450. The Fletchers held Achallader and Barravurich as their own, until Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenorchy, coveting their lands, provoked a quarrel and a false charge that forced the chief to sign away his estates — leaving the Fletchers mere tenants of the Campbells.
The Fletchers bound themselves in lasting friendship to the Stewarts of Appin, sealed by an oath on the dirk, and one of their number saved the life of the famed Rob Roy MacGregor. They rose for the Stewarts in 1715, and in 1745 fought on both sides, so escaping forfeiture. In the Clearances that followed, many Fletchers were cleared from Glen Orchy by the Campbells of Breadalbane and sailed for America and Canada. The badge is the pine, the crest two arms drawing a bow, and the motto Recta Pete.
