About the Crozier Tartan
Clan Crozier is one of the riding clans of the Scottish Borders — the reivers who rode the frontier between Scotland and England — settled in Upper Liddesdale and Teviotdale, with their chief stronghold at Riccarton. The name, found as Croser, Crosar and Croyser, comes from the crozier, the cross-staff or bishop's crook. An armigerous clan allied with the great Clan Armstrong, the Croziers have their own registered tartan.

Crozier Clan Heritage
The Croziers were settled in Liddesdale and the Debatable Land from the 12th century, with a place called "Locus Croyser" named in the rent roll of the lordship around 1376. William Crozier was Archdeacon of Teviotdale in 1427. Through the troubled centuries of the frontier the Croziers rode with the Armstrongs, Elliots and Nixons in the great riding confederacy of the West and Middle Marches, and in 1587 the Scottish Parliament named them among the clans of the Borders.
When the union of the crowns brought the reiving days to an end, many Croziers crossed with the Armstrongs and Nixons to plantation lands in County Fermanagh in Ulster, where some rose to be High Sheriffs, and from there carried the name across the world. The crest is a stag's head, and the motto Crux Coelorum, Crux Mihi Clavis Erit — "the cross of heaven shall be my key."
