About the Colquhoun Tartan
Clan Colquhoun is a Highland Scottish clan whose lands lie on the western shores of Loch Lomond. The name — pronounced "ca-hoon" — comes from the barony of Colquhoun, granted by the Earl of Lennox in the 13th century, while the lands of Luss came through marriage to the "Fair Maid of Luss" around 1368. A clan with its own chief — Colquhoun of Luss — seated at Rossdhu, the Colquhouns have their own distinctive tartan.

Colquhoun Clan Heritage
The chiefs of Colquhoun were keepers of the royal Dumbarton Castle and guardians of the crozier of St Kessog, the early saint of Loch Lomond. In 1457 Sir John Colquhoun had his lands erected into the free barony of Luss, with the power of "pit and gallows," and built the old castle of Rossdhu. The clan's defining tragedy came at the Battle of Glen Fruin, the "Glen of Sorrow," in the winter of 1602–3, when the MacGregors fell upon them and over two hundred Colquhouns were slain.
So bloody was Glen Fruin that the very name MacGregor was outlawed by the king — and the bitter feud between the clans was not healed until the chiefs shook hands on the battle site in the 18th century. Sir John Colquhoun, 19th of Luss, gained dark fame as a dabbler in sorcery. The chiefs of Luss continue to this day, seated by Loch Lomond. The crest is a stag's head and the motto Si Je Puis — "if I can."
