Clan Cameron is one of the oldest and most renowned of the West Highland clans, with their ancestral lands based around Lochaber, particularly in the areas surrounding Loch Eil and Fort William. Their stronghold was in the rugged mountains and glens of the western Highlands, where they built a fierce reputation as warriors and defenders of their territory. From as early as the 14th century, the Camerons were often at the center of Highland conflict, particularly noted for their long-standing feud with Clan Mackintosh and involvement in major battles.

The current chief of Clan Cameron is Donald Andrew John Cameron of Lochiel, Baron Cameron of Lochiel The historic seat of the clan is Achnacarry Castle, situated near Loch Arkaig, which has served as the heart of clan leadership since the 17th century. The Camerons were key supporters of the Jacobite cause, with the 19th Chief, "The Gentle Lochiel," playing a prominent role in the 1745 Rising alongside Bonnie Prince Charlie. Today, Clan Cameron remains a symbol of loyalty, martial prowess, and Highland pride, with Achnacarry Castle continuing to stand as a monument to their enduring heritage.

Achnacarry Castle, nestled between Loch Arkaig and the mountains of Lochaber, is the historic seat of Clan Cameron, one of the most formidable and respected clans in the West Highlands of Scotland. The Camerons were fierce Highland warriors and staunch defenders of their territory, with a history stretching back to the 14th century.
Their ancestral lands were based around Loch Eil and extended across Lochaber. Clan Cameron played a pivotal role in numerous Scottish conflicts, including their legendary rivalry with Clan Mackintosh and their significant contributions during the Jacobite risings. The 19th Chief, Donald Cameron—known as "The Gentle Lochiel"—was a prominent leader in the 1745 Jacobite Rising and a loyal supporter of Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Achnacarry Castle, originally built in the 17th century, was destroyed after the '45 Rising and later rebuilt in a Scottish Baronial style. During World War II, the estate served as a Commando training center, further enhancing its storied legacy.
Today, Achnacarry Castle remains in the hands of the Cameron family and serves as a proud emblem of Highland heritage, resilience, and tradition. The castle is also home to the Clan Cameron Museum, where visitors can explore centuries of clan history and cultural pride.
