Explore the history of Clan Lamont

How it all started

Territories

Clan Lamont is of ancient Dalriadic origin, descending from the royal House of O’Neill in Ireland. They settled in Cowal, Argyll, where they became prominent landholders. Once rivals of the Campbells, the Lamonts suffered devastating losses during the 1646 Dunoon Massacre, which saw many clanspeople killed. Despite this tragedy, the Lamont name survives as a proud Highland lineage with deep Gaelic roots.

Clan Chief

The current Chief is Rev. Peter Noel Lamont of that Ilk. The crest features a hand holding a sword, and the motto “Ne parcas nec spernas” (Neither spare nor despise) symbolizes honor and resilience. Clan Lamont societies continue to preserve the clan’s Gaelic heritage and tragic but proud history.
