Christie Family Heritage
Christie families are recorded across Scotland from early times — in Fife, Midlothian, Aberdeen and Galloway — and the name was especially rooted in the old Pictish kingdom of Fib, modern Fife. Through their close kinship with the Farquharsons of Invercauld, the Christies shared in that clan's fortunes; Finla Mor Farquharson and many of his kinsfolk, the Christies among them, were killed at the Battle of Pinkie in 1547.
As kin of the Farquharsons, the Christies were drawn into the great confederation of Clan Chattan, and shared the Jacobite loyalties and the courage of that alliance. The last recognised head of the name was Sir Archibald Christie, Deputy Governor of Stirling Castle, who died in 1847. The Christie crest, an oak stump sprouting fresh green growth, and the motto Sic Viresco, "thus I flourish," speak of renewal and enduring strength.
