Baird Clan Heritage
Robert the Bruce granted lands to the Bairds in the early 14th century, and from Lanarkshire the family moved north, with Andrew Baird buying Auchmedden in Aberdeenshire in 1539. A famous prophecy attributed to Thomas the Rhymer held that "there shall be an eagle in the crag while there is a Baird in Auchmedden" — and tradition says the eagles indeed left when the lands passed from the family, returning only when a Baird married back into the estate.
The crest, a gryphon's head, and the motto Dominus Fecit — "the Lord made" — crown a clan that produced remarkable figures: General Sir David Baird, hero of the Napoleonic Wars, and John Logie Baird, the Scottish inventor who demonstrated the world's first working television in 1926.
