About the Logan Tartan
Clan Logan is an ancient Scottish clan with branches in both the Highlands and the Lowlands. The Highland Logans, or Lobans, held lands at Drumderfit on the Black Isle in Ross, while the Lowland Logans of Restalrig, near Edinburgh, and of Ayrshire were a family of knights and barons. An armigerous clan today, sharing its tartan with the MacLennans, the Logans carry the poignant motto Hoc Majorum Virtus.

Logan Clan Heritage
The Logans appear in Scottish records for over nine hundred years, and supported Wallace and Bruce in the Wars of Independence. Their proudest and most tragic hour came in 1330, when Sir Robert and Sir Walter Logan rode with Good Sir James Douglas, bearing the heart of Robert the Bruce toward the Holy Land. In Spain, surrounded by the Moors, Douglas flung the casket into the enemy and charged; the Logans fell beside him — from which came the clan's pierced-heart crest and its motto.
The Lowland Logans of Restalrig, who held the port of Leith, rose high: Sir Robert Logan married a daughter of Robert II and became Lord High Admiral of Scotland. But a later Robert Logan of Restalrig was implicated in the Gowrie Conspiracy against James VI, and the family forfeited their lands. In the Highlands the Logans of Drumderfit share an ancient kinship with the MacLennans. The crest is a passion nail piercing a heart, the motto Hoc Majorum Virtus.
