Kinloch Family Heritage
The Kinlochs of that Ilk held their lands in Fife from the Middle Ages, and the name spread through the eastern counties, with lairdly branches rising in Fife, Perthshire and the Lothians. The Kinlochs of Gilmerton, near Edinburgh, were raised to a baronetcy in the 17th century, and gave the capital a Lord Provost, while the Kinlochs of Kinloch flourished in the Carse country of Perthshire.
The most beloved of the name was George Kinloch of Kinloch, the "Radical Laird" — outlawed in 1819 for championing the rights of ordinary people, he fled abroad, was pardoned, and returned in triumph to be elected the first Member of Parliament for Dundee after the Reform Act of 1832. His statue stands in Dundee's Albert Square to this day, and his descendants were made baronets in his honour. An old name of the loch-head, Kinloch remains a proud one across Scotland and beyond.
