About the Henderson Tartan
Clan Henderson — in Gaelic Mac Eanruig, "son of Henry" — is an old Scottish clan with more than one root. The Highland Hendersons of Glencoe served as hereditary bards and bodyguards to the MacDonald chiefs; the northern Hendersons of Caithness are a sept of Clan Gunn; and the Lowland Hendersons of Fordell in Fife rose to be the recognised chiefs. A clan with its own chief and its own tartan, the Hendersons carry the motto Sola Virtus Nobilitat.

Henderson Clan Heritage
The Highland Hendersons, Clann Eanruig, were reckoned the original people of Glencoe, tracing descent by tradition from "Big Henry," son of a Pictish king. When the MacDonalds came to rule the glen, the Hendersons became their hereditary pipers and bodyguards, chosen for their great size and strength. "Big Henderson of the Chanters," the chief's piper, was among those who fell in the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692.
In the far north, the Hendersons of Caithness sprang from Henry, son of George Gunn, the great crowner of Clan Gunn. In the Lowlands, James Henderson became Lord Advocate and acquired Fordell in Fife about 1511, founding the line of the chiefs; from it came Alexander Henderson, who drafted the National Covenant of 1638 and is honoured in Greyfriars Kirkyard. After lying dormant, the chiefship was restored in the Fordell line. The crest is a hand holding a star beneath a crescent, the motto Sola Virtus Nobilitat.
