About the MacGillivray Clan Tartan

Clan MacGillivray, from the Gaelic Mac Gille Bhrath, "son of the servant of judgement," was one of the principal clans of the great Clan Chattan confederation, seated at Dunmaglass in Strathnairn. MacGillivray Heritage

The clan's proudest and most tragic hour came at Culloden in 1746, where Alexander MacGillivray of Dunmaglass led the Clan Chattan regiment in a furious charge, breaking the government line before falling at the spot still known as the Well of the Dead. An armigerous clan today, the MacGillivrays keep the memory of Dunmaglass and their Chattan heritage.
